How should I write my first blog post? I am hesitant to write because I am scared to do so, but I am doing it scared... Hello and welcome to my blogging space. If you have arrived here, it is likely due to your curiosity about my journey in Leathercraft or a Google search leading you to this blog post. ;)
In 2017, we bought a 1956 Dodge Truck that needed restoration for my husband's birthday gift; you can see the truck in Monster Trucks (2016) movie.
We got so stoked about it and we were planing how we want this truck to be; and I was in charge of redoing the interior upholstery, ha! At this time, I had no skills for leather upholstery and still aren't skillful at all at it. So my husband got me a few books, and I was on search of YouTube to find some good tutorials... interesting enough, with sewing skills that I already have, most of tutorials seemed easy to understand for me. It was natural in a sense that I can understand why and how things works the way they do and outcomes you get using different materials such as leathers. I was so intrigued and couldn't sleep. My head were spinning... By that time, we've already bought a Juki DNU1541S industrial sewing machine to do the upholstery work. But the truck wasn't ready to have a new interior done, just yet. So.... what do I do? I tweedle, wheedle, counted beetles, and tumbled my thumbs...and played with my sewing machine, haha!
The time can't go any faster when you want it to be... so, we went to a Tandy leather store to checkout some materials and I felt in love with a few pieces of leathers and brought them home. That was my birthday weekend in 2019. And, I started make bag.. WHAT? wait... how doing an upholstery work becomes making a bag?
Well, I've stumbled upon a video making leather bags while I was waiting for the truck to be ready and I was fascinated about it. After watching a few of leather bag making videos and I made my first bag. I drew my pattern on frozen pizza boxes because I didn't had the right paper and made my first top handle tote bag... I mean tubular handle. If you are leathercrafters and know what tubular handle is, and you know the difficulty level of this handle making; I think I was very ambitious. Looking back, it was a crazy attempt of making this kind of handle, but somehow I did. Many mistakes were made...
And in the spring of 2020, we got hit by the pandemic... To be continued...
Until next time,
Take care,
