Are you familiar with the renowned Hermès luxury brand? This documentary delves into the intricate minds of the artisans at Hermès as they passionately engage in the art of crafting exquisite leather goods, weaving captivating stories around their creations.
A few years ago, I started watching this, but didn't get to finish it due to the fact my work place is at my home and my kids and dogs and a cat running around... and all this was happening during COVID-19 time...
Once again, I beheld it with awe, my mouth agape in sheer literary wonder...
Observing the musings of fellow artisans is a fascinating endeavor; however, I find resonance in nearly all they express. The journey of their creative process, the genesis of their work, evokes within me emotions akin to theirs. Two assertions resonated deeply within me: 'the material cannot dictate...' and 'a grandfather's fortune may fade, but his/your hard work will endure...' I hold these sentiments close to my heart.
If you possess the necessary expertise, the choice of material should not overshadow the final result, yet it is crucial to recognize the uniqueness of each material. Understanding the nuanced art of selecting specific materials for diverse projects serves as a more challenging skill to master than opting for commonly favored materials based solely on their price tag.
Why luxury leather goods? Luxury is a comforting embrace, a sanctuary from the chaos of life. It's about effortless elegance and unwavering confidence. And it also should be obtainable, indeed, it may be costly but not excessively extravagant with a hefty $10,000 price tag like Hermès...this is where I excel, crafting items that exude luxury and exclusivity at a fraction of the cost.
This documentary unveils the exquisite heritage of Hermès... and I marvel at their opulent history, filled with trials, errors, and ultimately, triumph - a true tale of success. I discovered that they are not only producing luxury items, but also cultivating a nurturing environment for these craftsmen to hone their skills; passing down the legacy of artisanal craftsmanship. Each item in H's collection of bags and other luxury goods is meticulously handcrafted, which accounts for their premium price tag; supporting skilled artisans and sustaining their business.
Do you find it justifies its cost? Should luxury come at a high price with an air of exclusivity? What are your thoughts? How would you define the essence of luxury?
Until next time...
